Liam’s First Halloween
Posted on Tuesday, November 1st, 2005 at 10:14 amLiam dressed up as a scary skeleton for his first Halloween! He also invited 9 of his closest baby friends over for a party on Sunday. It was so much fun to see all the babies ‘n’ toddlers in their costumes, and they were all so well behaved! It was basically a photo opportunity… We didn’t get around to carving any pumpkins though. Liam then visited his dad at his office on Halloween day, and went trick or treating at Grandma’s and one friend’s house. We tried to get home to hand out candy, but again the number of kids on our block was disappointing. I missed dressing up this year! We didn’t even put up our Halloween lights outside. Too busy having fun with Liam!

November 5th – I met Liam at the French cafe where the plan was we would go off to the lake and feed ducks, while Mom & Dad would go off to the Spectrum for some grown up time by themselves. After a cafe au lait and croissant, Liam and I cheerfully went our merry way, fed the ducks, geese, swans, and some little black birds. Our little adventure was a lot of fun, sitting on the grass watching the world and ducks go by. We were a little wary of someone staring at us (thinking a purse snatcher was nearby) but it turned out to be an old acquaintance from work who recognized me. But not recognizing him until he took off the backward baseball cap, I was relieved and happy it was someone I knew. We decided to pack up and go for a walk along the lake in the warm sunshine, and Liam promptly feel asleep. I thought it would be an opportune time to get him into the dreaded carseat while he was asleep, but alas no. It woke him immediately, and me with bag, drink, blanket, carkeys, purse, pacifier tried to click him in as easily as Josh rehearsed with me only an hour before. The hot car only made matters worse, and Liam started to wail. Then I made the panic call to THE PARENTS. How does this work?? They had to come rescue us, like I had never done this before, but you forget how complicated it gets. Before they arrived, we had a cuddle and even a relieved smile from Liam. I thought the only thing to do now before they arrive was to have one more quick look at the toy shop and there, we found the perfect toy. Maybe Liam didn’t need it, but I did! It was a car, with a boy, and it made a terrific sound as you pushed the boy down into the seat, the motor gunned, the car bumped and revved up and the wheels flew round (he tested it first and he indicated it was acceptable, you could tell, he was enthralled). We came out of the shop forgetting our past woes, and there THEY were, the PARENTS, ready to scrutinize every move, but alas — we were ok — we made it! Our first outing to the park. Love, Nonnie.
P. S. Dad said they didn’t come to rescue Liam, but to rescue me, Nonnie.
