My first Father’s Day!

Posted in Baby, Josh | 2 Comments »

Woo! Clare and Liam got me an AWESOME “covered bicycle trailer”, The Burley Bee. Once Liam can hold his head up, we’re hitting the roads (and trails!).

Liam and Clare are doing well. The little one has started to fuss a bit more. He’s much more vocal during the day and night. Mostly just little wimpers, grunts, and whines. He rarely cries (*knock on wood*).

Clare’s been given the OK to drive again, and has had more strength with each day. Today we’ll be going over to Mason Park in Irvine for a picnic and walk.

I love Father’s Day! :D

Liam is almost two weeks old! Everything has been going great. He’s starting to wake up from his 9 month slumber, and now lets us know when he wants and needs things. Of course, it’s still mostly limited to being hungry, or having a full diaper. Unfortunately, along with the two weeks of life mark comes my having to get back to work.

Liam was born on 6/2/2005 at 9:50pm. 8 pounds 4 ounces, 22 inches long.

Clare’s water broke on 6/2/2005 at 12:20am and we arrived at Hoag Hospital at 1am. Unfortunately, epidurals seem not to work for Clare. They only last about an hour… so it took two different epidural catheter installations, and about 10 hours of labor, for us to come up with a medication schedule that KINDA worked, most of the time.

Clare did make it to 9.5 cm dilation. The nurses were pushing for a Vaginal delivery, but it wasn’t in the cards. At about 9pm Clare was running a fever of 101, and when checked for dilation there was swelling. So the doctor was called in, everything was prepped, and Clare was rolled in for a C-section after about 14 hours of labor. I was able to be in the operating room as well, with scrubs on and camera ready.

It only took about 5 minutes for the lil guy to be born when they started the surgery. We heard his little gasp and cry, and started crying ourselves. I then was able to go and be with him while he was weighed and taken for all of his tests. Some of you received a picture from my camera phone about 5 minutes after he was born. It was amazing. He’d fuss while being given tests and I could call out his name and he’d turn his head and (try to) focus on me… of course, the same is true with Clare calling his name.

So, I’ve posted new photos in the gallery. Mom is doing well, and breast feeding is going *great*. Liam has been very well behaved.

We’ll post more soon! We (all three!) should be home on Monday!
