Car Accident, and Ultrasound!
Posted in Baby, General | 4 Comments »Everyone’s ok, don’t worry.
On Sunday we were in a car accident. I was driving Clare’s Honda with Clare in the passenger seat. We were on the 55 freeway heading northbound. I slowed for traffic and saw a car barreling down on us. It swerved into the lane to our left, overcorrected and came back and hit our car on the driver’s side. It then spun off of us, across all lanes of traffic, and hit the center divider. I actually saw the car leave the ground and come back down before getting side-swiped by a white van that was in the carpool lane.
The car hit us pretty dead-on on the side, which is good. Had it hit us nearer the rear end I doubt I would have been able to maintain control of the car (it was somewhat difficult as it was).
We pulled over and waited for the police and paramedics to arrive. Clare was shaken but felt okay… but was worried about our baby. We gave our report and asked to speak to a Paramedic. He said that the baby was probably fine, but that we might want to get an ultrasound to make certain.
When we got home we called the on-call doctor for our doctor’s office. He told us to come in to the office in the morning and get an ultrasound “just in case.” We arrived first thing in the morning and were told we’d have to go over to the ER in the hospital (across the street) to get the ultrasound done.
After being admitted, and waiting, we were wheeled in to the ultrasound room. The baby was *MOVING*. The lil’ bugger was kicking, punching, wiggling, squirming. We saw the little toes. We saw the little nose. We saw the little chin, the legs, the arms. And, yes, we saw “down there”, and we’re having a little boy!
So, yes. Everything’s fine. Clare’s taking the car to the shop that the insurance company instructed us to take it to get an estimate. It’s driveable, just a bit banged up.
